MARY KNEIL SWARD

Mary Kneil Sward, born October 30, 1922, passed peacefully at her home on January 4, 2012.  Mary was a long time Napa resident who worked in the library at Napa Sr. High School for 30 years, and recently enjoyed being a docent at the Carolyn Parr Nature Center.

Mary loved folk dancing and traveled the world experiencing different cultures, foods and dances. She was an active participant with regional folk dance groups and had organized the Napa Valley Folk Dancers for the last several years.  She also loved opera, movies, music, her 3 daughters and 2 grand daughters, California, cats and most importantly, reading.

Mary was born in New York City and raised in Albany, NY.  She graduated from Beloit College in 1945 with a degree in Anthropology, and later moved to the Bay Area, eventually settling in Napa where she spent the last 56 years appreciating and enjoying the Napa Valley, her friends and her family.

Mary is survived by daughters Patty Sward (Frank Malczewski) of Elizabeth, CO, Kate McElresh (David) of San Diego, Jen Sward of Seattle, granddaughters Johanna and Laura McElfresh, brother Tom Kneil (Grace) of Wichita, KS, nieces and a nephew and the friends she loved dearly. Mary will be missed by those who knew and loved her.
