Biography

Ann Peterson Manasse
1911-2010

Ann was a 4th generation Californian born to Will and Veronica Peterson in Sacramento. She was 99 years old. Her early education was completed in Sacramento. She went to U.C. Berkeley where she earned her Bachelors Degree. While in college she was a member of Alpha Xi Delta Sorority.

She married and moved to Napa in October 1933. In January of 1934 the State appointed her the first Director of the State Relief Administration for Napa County. Later, when Napa developed its own Welfare Department she worked there as a license Social Worker.

During the 2nd World War she volunteered as the Head of Home Service for the Napa Chapter Red Cross acting as a liaison between the troops overseas and their families at home. She continued as a volunteer for the Red Cross. After the war she was Napa Chapter's Disaster Chairwoman. She later was hired as the Executive Secretary for the Napa Red Cross.

Much later she went to San Francisco State College and received a certificate as a secondary teacher. She was a substitute teacher in the secondary schools of Napa for 15 years.

She had been a member of the Napa Valley Country Club and the Silverado Country Club. At the time of her death she stilled belonged to the League of Women Voters and the A.A.U.W. When her daughter was born she opened the first Well Baby Clinic in Napa and volunteered her services there once a month for 24 years.

She loved traveling and traveled extensively. Family, friends, books and bridge were her hobbies.

She leaves behind 3 children, Analee Chambless (Dave), Irving Jr. and Peter (Sandy), 9 grandchildren , Veronica Chambless, Paula Mahlandt (Jim) Trina Chambless, Edward Manasse, Katie Catinella, Jenny Lockwood (Edward) Medley Kelly (Greg) Steve Manasse (Lani) and Kimberly Manasse. 17 great-grandchildren and 4 great, great grandchildren.

Burial will be private in the family plot at Tulocay Cemetery Association. Arrangements by Tulocay Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent to www.tulocaycemetery.org
