Biography

PHILIP LUQUE JR.
1947-2010

Phil Luque, 62, passed away unexpectedly on February 22, 2010. He was born in Colorado Springs on July 18, 1947 to Philip L. Luque Sr., Estella Cordova Luque and was also the son of Doris Reisinger Luque. After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army serving two tours in Vietnam during which he was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious service.

In 1971 he married his wife Claudia. Together they raised their children Philip and Amanda in Napa. Phil worked for the Napa Sanitation District for 30 years retiring as a supervisor.

Phil loved golf, camping, gardening and the Denver Broncos! When something needed fixing, everyone called Phil. Phil and Claudia belonged to the Weekend Loafers RV Club and shared many "Happy Hours" at various campgrounds throughout the western states. His greatest joy in life was being a grandpa (papa)!

Phil is survived by his wife of 38 years, Claudia Luque, son, Philip Luque, West Hollywood, daughter, Amanda (Justin) Johnson, West Sacramento, grandchildren, Justin Jr. and Tiana Johnson; sisters, Rachael Soto, his twin Pricilla Roberts, Maria Place and brothers, John, Rick, Mike and Robert all of Colorado.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 27, 2010 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Tulocay Funeral Home. A service to celebrate Phil's life will follow at 3:30 p.m. in the chapel. Friends and family are invited to gather in the Tulocay Reception Center following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Queen of the Valley Hospital Foundation, 1000 Trancas St. Napa, CA 94558. I cannot put into words how much Uncle Phil will be missed. Our families grew up together and have been there for each other for every important event, illnesses, weddings, birthdays, baptisms, 4th of Julys, Halloween (It is a national holiday for Claudia.),everything. And we have spent a lot of joyous years on vacation, camping, Tahoe, Hawaii, Mexico, Disneyland, way to many to mention. Our families would not have had it any other way and we will continue to spend our joyous times together. Uncle Phil was the closest thing we had to a dad after we lost ours and our children adored him and loved giving Uncle Phil his "sugar". Our deepest sympathies go out to the Luques, Johnsons, Wurz', and Beaufils. We will miss Uncle Phil and his generousity and love. Thank you Uncle Phil for taking care of our families and especially for taking care of our mom. All of our love, the DeHaros, Perrys, and Rossis.

David McDuffey February 27, 2010
I am the grandson of Paul "mickey" and Bette JOhnson. I am young but still i remember the stories of both Phil and Claudia. Both of you seemed to be at all the great accomplishments of my family and every time you brought joy. I thank you and i leave you these words in faith that someday we will all be rejoined with a dear friend. I'm Free Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free. I'm following the path God has laid, you see. I took His hand when I heard His call. I turned my back and left it all. I could not stay another day, To laugh, to love, to work or play. Tasks left undone must stay that way, I found the peace at the close of day. If my parting has left a void, Then fill it with remembered joys. A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss, yes, these things I too will miss. Be not burdened with times of sorrow. I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow. My life's been full, I savored much, Good friends, good times, a loved one's touch. Don't lengthen it now with undue grief. Lift up your hearts, and peace to thee. God wanted me now, He set me free God Bless You Phil

Kristi James February 28, 2010

Hello, I didn't know Phil's family but I did know Phil off and on through people I also knew at Napa Sanitation and more recently for him working for me as "Mr. Fixit"! He was EVERYTHING that was said at his service and more! I could always depend on him when I thought I had an "emergency"! He will be greatly missed by all, especially his family. May you find comfort in your memories of him. Vicki Smith

There are some who bring a light so great to the world that even after they have gone the light remains. I can't take credit for those words but I do believe they applied to Philip. My heart is with you.

Laurie and Mom March 3, 2010
He was our everything and we will never be the same. He was Dorothy's son and not a son-in-law. He was there for all of us, a father, son and brother. We cannot imagine life without him.
