BiographyANTONIA OLVERA LUNA1927-2010 Antonia Olvera Luna passed away at her home in St. Helena on February 1, 2010 at the age of 82. Born in San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, Mexico on July 5, 1927, Antonia led a life of love, laughter, and fearless determination. Antonia emigrated to California in her early twenties. She left her home and family in pursuit of a better life for her and her own growing family. As one of the first Mexican American women residing in the Napa Valley, she worked at numerous places, including the Veterans Home in Yountville, California for 20 years. Antonia became a United States citizen in 2007, an achievement accomplished with much pride. Above all, her greatest success was through her dedication to raising a cohesive and ever-growing family. Antonia enjoyed cooking, gardening, getaways to the casino, watching novelas and boxing, and spending time with her family, friends and pets. Beloved mother, grandmother, and friend of many, she will be remembered as a family oriented, hard working, steadfast and independent woman with an equally strong faith and, of course, for her signature arroz. She is survived by her only brother, Benito Olvera, whom resides in Mexico, eight children: Jorge Luna, Ricardo Luna, John Raymond Luna, Cesar Luna, Alexandria Luna, Josephine Luna Gallegos (John), Marcela Luna Ochoa (Fernando), Irma Luna (Raymond), and Eloisa Alemán, whom she considered a daughter; in addition, 22 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and was awaiting the arrival of her first great-great grandchild. Family and friends are invited to attend the viewing and rosary on Thursday, February 4 in the Tulocay Funeral Home at 6:30pm. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Helena Catholic Church on Friday, February 5 at 1:00pm; interment at St. Helena Cemetery will immediately follow. A celebration of her life will take place at Tulocay Funeral Home following services. Words of sympathy may be sent to the family on-line at www.tulocaycemetery.org |
